Book of Mormon Historic Publication Site

The Book of Mormon first edition was printed in Palmyra, New York. The printing took place in the shop of E.B. Grandin, a newspaper publisher who purchased a Smith Patented Improved Press from Joseph Smith. Grandin was approached by the prophet about printing the Book of Mormon. Grandin refused the commission on moral grounds, but eventually agreed to print 5,000 copies of the book for a fee of $3,000.

Visitors can tour a restored building, which dates back to the 1830s. While there, you can see the original presses, and even see how the printing process worked back then. You can also walk through the store where the Book of Mormon was first sold.
